Laser Optics

Tue 27th

13:20 - 13:40

Recently I have worked on a project titled ‘Computer Generated Holograms’. My presentation will explain what a hologram is and how it is created. I will also briefly describe different laser beam modes that could be used to generate a hologram. Then, we will see how to force a laser beam into a desired shape using a TV (LCD), that you probably have at home, and the outcome that this yields. The result will show how it can be applied in a range of other scientific fields such as: immunology. To conclude I will also mention some other interesting projects which are using Laser Optics, that are currently being researched at University of Glasgow, including one related to the 2017 Noble Prize in Physics for observation of Gravitational Waves.

I am currently in my final year of a B.Sc. in Physics at University of Glasgow. I am originally from Krakow, The Royal Capital of Poland. I have chosen to study at the University of Glasgow because it is one of the best and… it looks like Hogwarts. During my course, I spent one year on exchange at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, where I had the opportunity to participate in a cutting-edge research at the Central Analytical Research Facility. Since 2014, I have given various presentations and participated in science conferences including: ‘Tomorrow’s Mathematician Today’, University of Surrey 2014; ‘Conference of Astronomy and Physics Students’, University of St Andrews 2014, University of Manchester 2015; Oxford Undergraduate Physics Conference, University of Oxford 2015; Let’s Talk about [X] University of Glasgow 2015. I am also an award-winning, passionate Barista, recently elevated to Assistant Manager. My other hobbies are Yoga and the College of Piping.
